This family session is a special one for me because it was my first official shoot since relocating to the Northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati Area. While I have tried to hope for the best, to believe deep down I will be able to reestablish myself as a photographer in a new city, it has admittedly a stressful time. So this session booked at a time when I was feeling an overwhelming sense of doubt, and this beautiful family reminded me, once again, why I love this job so much.
Not only that, this family had also just relocated to NKY from Lexington over the summer and were feeling very much like I was, which immediately helped our chemistry. We were able to connect within that similar, vulnerable space of trying to make something new feel like home, which also meant that I was able to help them capture some “firsts” of their own. Family pictures are heirlooms, something that will always remind you of home. So these pictures will serve as a waypoint for them, a way of saying, “we’re home.”
This session was a little crazy and a lot of fun. Such is life with toddlers and babies, which has been my story for these last 10 years or so. We all know that struggle is real. But I love capturing families with young ones because I know as a mom I remember feeling like everything is just a little crazy but being on the outside and getting to capture it for others…well, it’s such a privilege to photograph that and show a new perspective especially to the mamas and show them just a tiny bit of all the beauty this season of life holds.
These parents are so fun and kept their boys laughing and playing throughout the session. It’s something special to watch parents work together to create fun amidst the crazy for their kids, and that attitude always shines through in family sessions.
Thank you, Edmister’s, for trusting me with your family photos… you guys are such a wonderful crew and totally rocking this season of parenting.
